Jets Star Breece Hall Sustains Groin Strain During Practice, Early Indications Suggest Minor Injury
New York Jets running back Breece Hall experienced a non-contact injury during Monday's training camp, prompting concern, but initial reports indicate a right groin strain that may not be severe.

New York Jets supporters faced a moment of anxiety following reports that running back Breece Hall sustained a non-contact injury during a practice drill on Monday. Initial assessments, however, offer a measure of reassurance regarding the health of their recently extended backfield cornerstone.
Hall was diagnosed with a strained right groin. While the team awaits further evaluation to determine the precise severity, head coach Aaron Glenn conveyed a hopeful outlook, suggesting the injury is not significant.
"I don’t think it was a big deal, but I want to make sure I get the evaluation on that," Glenn told reporters.
The incident occurred as Hall, who had just caught a pass, went down on one knee on the practice field without any contact from another player, short of the end zone. Such non-contact injuries often raise immediate alarm among players, coaches, and staff.
Hall eventually made his way to the sideline with a noticeable limp, subsequently entering the medical tent before heading to the locker room for further assessment.
Team Reacts to Hall's Injury Scare
The scare was palpable even among Hall's teammates. Braelon Allen, another running back on the roster, shared his immediate reaction to seeing Hall go down.
"My stomach dropped a little bit," Allen remarked. "From the sounds of it, it doesn’t seem too serious, so I’m hoping he gets back as quick as possible."
This incident comes shortly after Hall secured a new three-year contract extension valued at $43.5 million this offseason, a deal he had reportedly been seeking.
Hall's Impact and Recent Performance
Hall is coming off a standout season, where he demonstrated his significant value to the Jets' offense. The former Iowa State product, drafted 36th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, was slated to play the upcoming season under his fifth-year option before the recent contract agreement. He had previously hinted at his desire for a new deal through social media activity.
During his career year, Hall amassed 1,065 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns. He also proved to be a reliable target in the passing game, catching 36 receptions for 350 yards and an additional touchdown. This production occurred during another challenging season for the Jets, a franchise that has not reached the playoffs since 2010.
With Frank Reich now at the helm as offensive coordinator, the team's strategy reportedly emphasizes a robust running game. This approach underscores Hall's critical role in the Jets' offensive plans, particularly for the upcoming 2026 season, making his health a paramount concern.
Running Back Depth and Injury History
Behind Hall on the current depth chart are Braelon Allen and Kene Nwangwu. The team's presumed third-string back, Isaiah Davis, is also currently sidelined with a minor knee injury, though he is expected to return soon.
Hall's professional career has not been without its injury setbacks. His rookie season was cut short due to an ACL injury. However, he has demonstrated resilience, missing a total of only two games over the past three seasons.
Known for his versatility, Hall presents a dual threat to opposing defenses, capable of evading tacklers effectively in both the running and passing schemes. The Jets intend to fully leverage these skills, alongside the talents of wide receiver Garrett Wilson and promising rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq, to bolster their offensive attack.
In other offseason developments, the Jets also reunited with quarterback Geno Smith, who is aiming for a more successful stint in New York during his second tenure with the team.
