"A moment of frustration," he explained. "No one made the decision for me, I'm the one that made the decision to not show up."
He also acknowledged failing manager Torey Lovullo in that moment. "I get along really well with Torey, and in that instance I failed him by not showing up," Marte said.

This occurred while his teammates were competing in a home game across town. When questioned about the optics of gambling during a critical period for the team, Marte dismissed the concerns.
"I've been injured before, those are things that I do in my personal time," he told reporters.
When reporters directly asked if he had a message for the Arizona fans who contribute to his salary, Marte chose not to respond, shaking his head no.
