Jazz Chisholm Jr. Blames Umpire After Botching Routine Ground Ball for Yankees
A New York Yankees infielder made a costly fielding error during Tuesday's game, then immediately redirected blame toward the second-base umpire.

New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. found himself in an awkward spotlight during Tuesday night's contest against the Baltimore Orioles, transforming a routine defensive error into an immediate display of finger-pointing.
In a scoreless second inning at Camden Yards, with runners on first and second, pitcher Carlos Rodon executed a pitch designed to produce a double-play. Christian Franklin hit a ground ball directly towards Chisholm at second base, presenting an opportunity to end the inning.
The Play and Immediate Reaction
Instead of securing the out, Chisholm mishandled the ball, allowing it to deflect off his glove. This error loaded the bases for the Orioles. Almost instantly after the misplay, Chisholm turned and pointed accusingly at second-base umpire Ryan Additon, implying the official was responsible for the blunder.
Replays of the incident quickly contradicted Chisholm's reaction, showing Additon standing in the appropriate position and not interfering with the play, confirming the miscue was solely a fielding error.
Despite the defensive lapse, Rodon managed to escape the jam. With the bases loaded and one out, the Yankees pitcher struck out Carlos Narvaez and Jackson Holliday consecutively, stranding all three runners. The Yankees ultimately went on to secure a 3-1 victory.
A Season of Struggle for Chisholm
This incident occurs during what has been a challenging 2026 season for Chisholm. Prior to Tuesday's game, the infielder carried a batting average of .216 and had recently been benched over the weekend.
Chisholm himself offered a candid evaluation of his performance earlier this year, stating, "It sucked. I've sucked all season. The numbers speak for themselves."
Ultimately, the immediate repercussions of the fielding error were averted thanks to Rodon's composure on the mound, preventing any runs from impacting the scoreboard.
